Finding Rivers in the Desert

"Finding Rivers in the Desert:

God's Promise of Renewal at Community Reformed Church"
In the tapestry of faith, there are moments when God calls us to look beyond what our eyes can see. This week at Community Reformed Church Whiting, we explored a profound truth that resonates with every believer's journey: God is doing something new.
Between Wilderness and Promise
"Do not remember the former things," Isaiah boldly proclaims. These words, spoken to people in exile—those who had lost their temple, their city, and their sense of identity—echo through the centuries to reach us today. How many of us have stood in similar wilderness moments? Perhaps it's the quiet halls that once rang with children's laughter, or the weight of change that seems too heavy to bear.
But here's the beautiful truth: God doesn't just lead us through the wilderness—He creates rivers in it.
The Fragrance of Faithful Worship
Our journey through Scripture took us from Isaiah's desert to Bethany's intimate gathering, where Mary's act of devotion filled an entire house with precious perfume. This powerful image reminds us that true worship changes atmospheres. When Mary broke open that alabaster jar, she wasn't following a strategic plan or seeking approval. She was simply pouring out her heart in faith.
Growth Through Grace
What does this mean for our church family today? It teaches us that authentic growth begins with surrender, not strategy. While we navigate our own seasons of change—including our current journey to raise funds for our new boiler—we're reminded that God's work often starts in unexpected ways.
Consider these truths we discovered together:
  • God specializes in making ways through wilderness seasons
  • Renewal comes through faithful hearts, not just full buildings
  • Every crisis can become a crossroads
  • Growth begins with surrender and trust
  • Small acts of faith can fill entire rooms with God's presence
A Living Testimony
We shared a powerful story of a small church that chose prayer over panic, faith over fear. They gathered not to plan, but to pray. Not for numbers, but for new life. And God answered—one person, one family at a time. This testimony reminds us that God's work often begins with a faithful few who dare to believe in His promises.
Your Place in the Story
As we continue our journey together at Community Reformed Church, we invite you to be part of this unfolding story. Whether you're:
  • Seeking community in a disconnected world
  • Looking for purpose in your faith journey
  • Wanting to be part of something bigger than yourself
  • In need of spiritual renewal
There's a place for you here.
Moving Forward in Faith
Our church stands at an exciting crossroads. While we face practical challenges—like our ongoing boiler project—we're also witnessing God's faithfulness in new faces joining our worship, in strengthened relationships, and in deepened faith.
Remember: We don't need an overnight transformation. We need faithful hearts willing to:
  • Trust God's timing
  • Pour out our best in worship
  • Welcome others with open arms
  • Believe in God's promise of renewal
